Bill Connolly

Bill Connolly, '69

Four-year player, the final three years as a hooker for the FURFC. Key player on the 1968-1969 team, one of the best teams in the history of the FURFC. As club President in the spring 1969 season Bill, along with Steve Carre, helped organize the dedication of Lt. Hans Grauert Memorial Field. Bill was a founding member of Essex RFC in 1970 and played for the club until 1977. He served as both the Captain and President during that career. He was a key member of the 1976 Essex side that won the New York Metropolitan Union Championship.

Bill continued on in rugby as a coach of the Essex RFC, the New York Metropolitan Union select side, and the ERU North select side. For several years he was an assistant ERU coach under the guidance of United States Eagles Coach Ray Cornbill. Connolly served as an assistant coach for the Eastern Rugby Union against the national teams from England and South Africa and in 1980 he served as an assistant coach of the U.S. Eagles.
