Doug Ciacci 1965

Doug Ciacci, '65

A founding member of the FURFC and player during its first two years, Doug came to Fairfield as one of Connecticut's outstanding high school athletes. He was an all-state half back at New Britain High School. His combination of athleticism, speed and toughness made him the prototype of a Fairfield rugger.
He led the inaugural 1963 team to a 6-1 record and second place, out of 40 teams, in the prestigious New York Rugby Sevens tournament in November, 1963. The tournament was covered by The New York Times; its feature article highlighted the gritty, determined play of the upstart Fairfield team.

A natural leader, Doug was respected by all who played alongside and against him. He forever remains the standard against which all Fairfield ruggers are measured, on and off the field.

Career highlights include:
  • Captain FURFC - 1965
  • Legendary leader of the club, on and off the field.
  • Member, Fairfield University Athletic Hall of Fame.
  • Namesake of the FURFC annual Most Valuable Player award and of a scholarship for Fairfield student athletes.
  • One of the greatest players in Fairfield rugby history.
