Tom Crowley

Tom Crowley, '69

Tom Crowley played A side rugby for the Stags all four of his years at Fairfield University. As an inside center during his career he was a slashing runner, great setup man and passer, and a ferocious, reliable defender. He scored numerous critical tries in big games, including the game winner against Georgetown in 1969.

Tom captained the 1969 team as the leader of the backs and moved flawlessly to club rugby after graduation. He started his club career with the Met Union First Division Westchester RFC and in the fall of 1970 became one of the founding members of the Essex RFC. He was one of the outstanding centers in the New York Met Union beginning in the fall of 1969 through 1976.

Tom played a critical role in the development of Essex as a top senior club side in New York, helping lead the team to an undefeated Met Union season in 1976. His eye for the gap, setup skills and fearless, reliable defense were his trademark in club rugby. He was regarded around the Eastern Rugby Union as one of its best centers.
